Evidence Based Medicine

Evidence-Based Practice in Medicine and Health Care:

Evidence-Based Practice in Medicine and Health Care:
Evidence-based Medicine (EBM) is feared to become a kind of cook-book medicine that has nothing to do with the traditional skills and ethics. This volume shows the contribution EBM makes and might make to medical practice and health policy. It describes  as many viewpoints as possible with a focus on the ethical issues that are at stake in this process. It shows how EBM has developed from an internal medical issue to an instrument for health policy. It is the outcome of the European Project "Ethical Issues of Evidence Based Practice in Medicine and Health Care"  and gives  insight into the ethical background of the debate on the role of EBM in various areas of medicine, including clinical practice, medical education, medical research, health policy and medical sociology.

Perioperative and Supportive Care in Gynecologic Oncology: Evidence-Based Management by Steven A. Vasilev, X
Perioperative and Supportive Care in Gynecologic Oncology: Evidence-Based Management by Steven A. Vasilev, X
Evidence-based medical practice stresses a combination of the best available objective evidence and an individual practitioner's clinical expertise. The Editor, a recognized leader in the field of gynecologic oncology and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, has assembled authors to utilize the principles of evidence-based medicine, thereby providing a foundation for decision-making in clinical care. Perioperative and Supportive Care in Gynecologic Oncology discusses the diversity of available diagnostic and therapeutic options for problems in perioperative care of gynecologic oncology patients. Essential materials are presented within a framework of evidence-based medicine, with an emphasis on systematic data collection, grading, decision analysis, and cost sensitivity. Authors provide analyses of the modern-day issues facing providers of gynecologic perioperative and oncologic care. Included are discussions of evidence grading methodology, a primer on decision analysis application, and choosing the best data sources. Each chapter moves from clinical profiling of the disease or problem, followed by a presentation of the best available evidence, and concluding with treatment options where appropriate. This invaluable reference also presents the basics of perioperative and critical care, physiologic principles, as well as essential procedures and clinical tools. All practitioners and trainees involved in perioperative care will find this ground-breaking reference invaluable.

Evidence-based medicine - Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is a medical movement based upon the application of the scientific method to medical practice, recognizing that many long-established medical traditions are not yet subjected to adequate scientific scrutiny. According to the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, "Evidence-based medicine is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.

Evidence-based design - Evidence-based design is the natural parallel and analog to evidence-based medicine. An evidence-based designer, together with an informed client, makes decisions based on the best information available from research and project evaluations.

Evidence-based policy - Evidence-based policy is the idea that all public policy should be informed by rigorously established objective evidence. It is an extension of the idea of evidence-based medicine to all areas of public policy.

Evidence based practice - An approach to a profession informed by the review of evidence gathered in systematic ways. Evidence-based practice (EBP) uses research results, reasoning, and best practices to inform the improvement of whatever professional task is at hand.
